Rolling Base ® family
Update from the Rolling Base® Crew
As you may be aware The Rolling Base ® family was originally made up of our three specially-adapted mobile youth vehicles:
Rolling Base ® (our single deck bus, built in 1996,purchased and converted in 2006)
Rolling Base ® Max (RBMAX – our van purchased and converted in 2008)
Rolling Base ® PLUS (RBPLUS) (our trailer built in 2002 and converted in 2011) which can be towed by either a minibus or RBMAX our van. The trailer, which had been donated to us, has been refurbished and upgraded to allow integrated use of music amplifiers with p.a system, an Xbox Kinect and 50-inch plasma screen.
Each year since we began our mobile youth services (2007-08) approximately 2,500 young people participate in a range of enjoyable, safe, fun activities all over the area.
However the bus was showing was showing signs of age with increasing maintenance bills and was found to be beyond economic modification to ensure compliance with the new Low Emission Zone requirements being introduced in 2019, so sadly had to be retired.
The funding for the remaining two vehicles has been patchy in 2018, so it was with a very heavy heart that the Trustees of the Charity agreed that the Rolling Base project should be wound down and cease operating after our final appearance at the North Road Royal Wedding Celebrations.
Our thanks go out to all who contributed over so many years to making Rolling Base SO special when it arrived at the parks, estates and communities where it provided lots of safe fun, play and sports activities for children and Young People of all ages and abilities to participate in.
